Although happily based in beautiful San Francisco, SMDS has definitely been in expansion mode as of late. Among our current gigs: a beautiful Spanish colonial in Westwood and a high-profile project in the Hollywood Hills (but our lips are sealed on that one—sorry, darlings!). New York has us working on an Upper East Side apartment, and back home in SF, we’re embarking on a two-bedroom project on the 26th floor of the St. Regis, high in the sky.

During our trips to all points southward, eastward, and skyward, we’ve found inspiration at each destination.

In L.A., we were spoiled at Matsuhisa, feasting on an omakase dinner in their VIP sushi bar (woo hoo), and we’re loving the retro-chic Studio 54 style that’s come full circle at MR CHOW, feeding a delicious scene, with scores of amped paparazzi out front.

In New York, we were blown away with the vastness of Buddakan, so gorgeously appointed… a sweeping room full of clinking glasses, velvet damasks, just a barrage of massive beauty in the Big Apple.

And high in the sky, recently we were quite taken with the unexpected waterfront view from the top of the Hotel Vitale, complete with Japanese-style deep soaking tubs in a rooftop bamboo garden for those open to a truly urban spa experience.
